CHICAGO—Alderman Daniel La Spata (1st Ward) challenged Mayor Lightfoot’s budget. Not once, but three times.
“[The budget] did not match the values of the 1st Ward,”
Then he co-led a coalition in 2022 to craft the Chicago Rescue Plan, which re-defined the debate in city hall, creating dramatic new investments in violence prevention and housing security.
And in 2023, he challenged her again as she didn’t follow through on her investment promises.
